The primary function of the Sinomlando Centre is to provide training and mentoring in oral history and memory work to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs), faith-based organisations (FBOs) and state institutions in South Africa and in the rest of the African continent. Since its inception Sinomlando has established partnership agreements with several dozens of organizations, both in oral history and in memory work.
Such partnerships can be of a relatively short duration, when the only service rendered is the facilitation of a once-off training workshop, or last several years, when the staff and volunteers of the organization require ongoing training and mentoring.
During the early years of Sinomlando’s history most partners were located in the KwaZulu-Natal province. Today we have partners all over South Africa and in more than eight other African countries.
Over the years Sinomlando has developed different types of partnership:
- partnerships with South African organisations
- partnerships with international organisations
- partnerships with organisational networks
- partnerships with donor agencies
